Standing Together for Edinburgh!
Every day at the Community Help & Advice Initiative (CHAI), we meet people facing impossible choices, between heating their homes, feeding their families, or paying rent. A sudden illness, job loss, relationship breakdown, or unexpected bill can push anyone into crisis.
Our Emergency Crisis Fund provides small but vital hardship grants to people across Edinburgh who are struggling to afford essentials or waiting for benefit payments to start. These grants offer immediate relief, protecting wellbeing, preventing deeper hardship, and helping people rebuild stability and dignity.
What crisis funding provides:
• Emergency food, fuel, or energy top-ups
• School essentials (coats, shoes, uniforms, school bags)
• Supplies for babies (nappies, formula milk)
• Essential household items (bedding, cooking equipment, small appliances)
• Emergency clothing or hygiene packs
• Digital access (data top-ups or devices for applications or interviews)
• Travel costs for advice, court hearings, or job interviews
• Costs to secure benefits (ID documents, GP letters, or medical reports)
As winter approaches, demand for crisis support is rising – and our funds are running low.
You can make an immediate difference:
• £20 could provide a hygiene pack for a parent or child during a sudden hospital stay
• £50 could help families heat their home and feed their children
• £100 could provide essential items and advice helping people and families move forward
Your donation helps us ensure no one in Edinburgh is left without the basics — food, heat, and dignity — when they need help most.
